Inflammation of layers of the lungs (Pleura i.e. Parietal pleura/ visceral pleura).
Etiology:
- Tuberculosis
- Bronchitis
- Pleural infection
- Pneumonia
- Lung neoplasm
Clinical features:
- Chest pain
- Ribbing sound from sides of the lung
- Sharp knife like pain during inspiration
- Dysponea
- Coughing with pain
Investigations:
- X-ray chest
- CBC
Medical Management:
- Treat the causative agent
- Analgesic
- Antipyretic
- Antibiotic
- Expectorant
- Laxatives
- Oxygen inhalation
Nursing Management:
- ROM of the Chest
- Maintaining good hydration to liquefy secretion
- Maintaining good hygiene including oral hygiene
- Adequate rest, diet, exercise
- Avoidance from smoking
- Provide ventilated room
- Avoidance from the allergens
